My Big Purchase

A trip to Dehillerin is always a treat. How do they ever remember where everything is in this place? After you have compiled your list and  located what you wanted to buy, you discover one more item that you just have to have in your  kitchen.......well, this is what I found, that one more item that I still can't believe I dragged all the way back home to Florida. My blind-baked crusts will never shrink or puff up again, not with these. These pie weights are special~they will work because I purchased them in Paris.....and from the legendary store so many of us enjoy. No more beans or rice when baking my crusts!

Oh, my heart started pounding when I saw Dehillerin. I cannot go to Paris without stopping by there. And I can always count on airport security pulling me aside to inspect my purchases (my French rolling pin and 6 quart copper saucepan to be specific) ;)

I actually don't know about this store -- I usually don't have time when I'm in Paris to pursue MY interests! It's either work or taking my kids sightseeing or shopping...I'll have to look up where it is.

ho ho and that basement is such a cave of wonderment to me.
There's always one more thing . . .
May those pie weights bake in many a grand crust!

Was Kim still there, Jann? He is a delight!

I am sorry we did not get a chance to visit Dehillerin on our last trip. We pretty much stayed in our neighborhood near the Bastille and St. Paul Village because we had so little time. That's become our favorite 'hood. But I do love the old Les Halles area, too.

Just had an afterthought: I bought pie weights from T.J. Maxx, another store many of us enjoy! They really work!

But of course your pie weights will make the perfect blind baked crusts, they are French after all, non? I have pie weights that look quite similar to yours and I love them.

Jann, I have a jar of lead pastry weights tht I have taken with us on every single move we've made, including living for ten years in Abaco, the out island of the Bahamas. My husband & I love France and spent two months in St Remy de Provence last spring. I wanted to put the entire place in my suitcase and bring it home. I have a food blog and have included your link in my site. I believe my readers will enjoy your posts. Au revoir.

Congratulations on becoming a store owner! I missed the name of your store.

Do you cook with these copper pans. I have been thinking about buying some, but my stove top is an electric flat glass top and I am not sure how well these will work.
